FAQ

What is Aran weight yarn?
Aran weight is a thickness of yarn, slightly heavier than worsted weight yarn. Check the ball band on the yarn for the suggested gauge. It should be approximately 16 sts / 4” over a stockinette stitch gauge swatch and the suggested needle size should be about a size 9 needle.
What yarn was used for the Reader's Wrap model?
Jo Sharp's Silk Road Aran Tweed - Color #115 Wintergrass
How do I choose which needles and instructions to follow for the Multi-Sized Roll Brim Hat?
First choose your yarn. Yarn weight should be anywhere between a bulky weight and a worsted weight.
Second choose the corresponding needle size. Printed on the ball band of the yarn is a needle size suggested by the manufacturer.
Needle size will vary from approximately size 13 for bulky weight yarns to size 6 for worsted weight yarns.
Work a gauge swatch. Determine how many stitches per inch you have. It may be necessary to change needle size to achieve one of the gauges listed on the pattern.
Once you determine that you have a gauge of 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5 or 5 sts per inch, you will then decide what size hat you want - small, medium or large.
As an example: Your gauge in 3.5 sts / 1" and you want a medium sized hat. You will follow the directions for the Size: Medium and use the 4th set of numbers in the parentheses.
So you will cast on 70 sts, Work as directed for 5.5", decrease 6 sts for a total of 64 sts.
